Parliament trashes Vinci Coffee deal, orders government to terminate agreement

The head of the investment committee in Parliament Mbarara municipality member of Parliament Mwine Mpaka has read the report on the controversial Coffee deal between Vinci limited and the government of Uganda.

The deal that was signed by minister of finance Matia and ministry of finance permanent secretary Ramathan Goobi gave the Italian monopolistic rights to sell and trade in Uganda’s marketable coffee.

Revelations about the deal raised eyebrows among the farmers and traders of the lucrative cash crop including the major players of Buganda kingdom.

In the session that was conducted until dawn, Mwine Mpaka instructed that the government terminate the agreement and report to Parliament within 6 months from the date of adoption.

Government was so advised to regularize their relationship with the Vinci Coffee company and proper consultation be done before any more dealings.

The report also advised that the already existing 47 coffee processors be given first priority to run the business and be supported by government.
