Social media has been dominated by the news of General Elly Tumwine since Saturday night but his family has refuted the claims saying the former Security minister is still alive.

Tumwine has been struggling health wise and it is reported that he was flown out of the country on Thursday while in a very critical situation.

The report sparked reports about his death like it was the case with the fallen Speaker of the parliament, the late Hon. Jacob Oulanyah early this year.

Through the official social media platforms of Gen. Tumwine, the family made clarity about the situation saying he is not dead.

Another family member Barbie Ankunda also refuted the claims with another post on Twitter.

Tumwine is a retired Ugandan military officer and a professional artist and an educator who also served Uganda as a Minister of Security between 2019-2021.

He was a commander of the National Resistance Army from 1984-87 as the current government to over leadership of Uganda.

He was recently sanctioned by USA over Human Rights abuse following his remarks that the police has a right to shoot at protesters.
