Uganda’s leading newspaper Daily Monitor has today issued an apology after publishing factual errors about the aftermath of Gen. Elly Tumwine’s death.

Daily Monitor ran story with a deck just below the headline saying that Gen. Elly Tumwine’s foster daughter Edna Tumwine asked mourners to contribute money to buy a plane so that they can regularly fly the widow, Jolly Tumwine to check on the cattle at the family’s farm in Kazo, Western Uganda.

It has been clarified that Ms Edna Tumwine is a biological daughter of the fallen General contrary to what was published.

The newspaper also made clarity that Edna Tumwine did not make the statement about fundraising to buy a plane but later made by another relative.

This website has established it was Brenda, a private nurse and foster child of Gen. Tumwine who said the deceased had a wish of buying a plane for the widow.

Brenda further said, she hopes Tumwine’s wish doesn’t die with his death and looked up to the people who were in one way or the other supported by Tumwine to fulfill the wish.

The former Security minister succumbed to lung cancer at Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi, Kenya last week.
