Prince Charles succeeds Queen Elizabeth II as King immediately

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday evening at Balmoral in Scotland, her eldest son Prince Charles, 73, has succeeded her as King immediately.

He Becomes monarch of the United Kingdom and 14 Commonwealth realms from Canada to Australia.

Charles was born on 14th November, 1948 in Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

He was the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held the title from July 1958 until his ascension on 8th September 2022, following the death of his mother, Elizabeth II.

Meanwhile, the Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on 21 April 1926.

The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953, aged 27, in front of a then-record TV audience estimated at more than 20 million people.

The Queen was a global icon who was recognized by billions of people around the world.
