All good things come to an end and so has Trevor Noah’s time as host of the Daily Show a journey he started seven years ago in 2015.

The South African comedian started out his career in his home country South Africa and toured a number of countries before landing the Daily Show job.

On Thursday this week, Noah announced to his audience and viewers that he would be stepping down as the Daily Show host after 7 years.

He thanked all the team that he has been working with and the loyal fans for an amazing seven years he’s had with them.

“I remember when we first started., so many people didn’t believed in us,” he said. Appointing me as host was a crazy bet to make. I still think it was a crazy choice, this random African.”

“I just find myself filled with gratitude for the journey. It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something that I never expected.”

In his farewell message, Noah who had a good run of satirical jokes on US former president Donald Trump confessed having enjoyed being host of the show but felt he was missing something on the outside.

“I’ve loved hosting this show, it’s been one of my greatest challenges, it’s been one of my greatest joys. But after seven years, I feel like it’s time,” he said.

“I realised there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages, I miss going to other countries and putting on shows. I miss just being everywhere and doing everything.” Continued an emotional Noah.

He then went ahead to thank the Network that gave him the opportunity to replace Jon Stewart who had hosted the show for 16 years.

“I’m really grateful to a network who believed in this random comedian nobody knew on this side of the world, all I can say is thank you very much”

Ugandan comedian Joseph Opio has been part of Trevor Noah’s writing team, I guess this explains the frequent mention of the banana republic in various episodes of the show.

We wish Trevor and his team good luck in their new endeavors.
