Twitter has sacked half of it’s 7,500 staff as the new owner Elon Musk launched his major overhaul of the company on Friday.

The development was confirmed by an internal document which stated;

“Roughly 50% of employees were impacted and would be denied access to company computers and email on an immediate basis.”

Michele Austin, Twitter’s director of public policy for the United States and Canada who was also shown the exit door said,

“Woke up to the news that my time working at Twitter has come to an end. I am heartbroken. I am in denial.” Said Austin

Meanwhile new owner Musk tweeted on Friday that,

“Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day.”

Meanwhile the reduction of employees is part of Musk’s plan to find ways to pay for the mammoth $44 billion deal for which he took on billions of dollars in debt and sold $15.5 billion worth of shares in Tesla, his electric car company.
