World Cup 2022: Senegal beat Ecuador in dramatic Group A finale to seal round of 16 spot

African Champions Senegal beat Ecuador 2-1 in the Group A finale to prevail to the round of 16 for the first time in 20 years.

Goals from Ismaila Sarr and skipper Kalidou Koulibaly sent the West African side into the last 16 of the global showpiece.

Sarr was fouled in the final minute of the first period by Hernan Galindez from 12 yard.

The forward was entrusted with the responsibility a perfectly slotted Senegal into the lead.

Ecuador levelled matters in the second period through Moises Caicedo but the South American side’s joy short lived as Koulibaly netted the winner for Senegal.

The Chelsea defender’s superb volleyed winner is his first goal for his nation and indeed it was a vital.

In the other group game, Netherlands beat hosts Qatar 2-0 to finish top with seven points.

Senegal finished second in Group A with 6 points and will now play the winners of Group B the group which England currently top on Sunday night.
