Bus and taxi operators have revealed the reasons why transport fares for those traveling upcountry for the festive season have slightly increased just days head of Christmas.
Some of the reasons are due to high prices of fuel and lack of passengers in villages coming to kampala.
Muhammad Ssempijja the driver and leader at Namayiba taxi park says that drivers have only increased slightly in the transport fares to allow drivers meet vehicle expenses because when they take passengers to the villages, vehicles return empty to Kampala.
Ssempijja has indicated that currently from Namayiba taxi part to Lira passengers pay Shs50,000 from Shs35,000, Kigumba Shs30,000 from ugx 25000, Amurata Shs30,000 from Shs 25000, Nakasongola, Luweero
However, he has advised police and other security agencies enforcing safety on roads to desist from selective enforcement such that people’s lives are saved.
