President’s son arrested for selling plane

Ruslan Obiang Nsue, the son to Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo was arrested for illegally selling a plane owned by the National airline.

Ruslan was detained on Monday and placed under house arrest, TVGE said Tuesday.

According to the state channel, authorities opened an inquiry in late November after discovering that an ATR 72-500 belonging to the national airline (Ceiba Intercontinental) had gone missing.

Ruslan is said to have sold the plane to Binter Technic, an aircraft maintenance company based in Las Palmas on the Spanish Island of Grand Canary.

His half brother, Vice President Teodoro Nguemo Obiang Mangue revealed on Twitter that “Ruslan Obiang has admitted that he was the one who sold Ceiba’s ATR.”

Ruslan is a former Junior Minister for sport and youth and also the previous head of the airline who is today chief of airport services companies,Ceiba Aeropuertos.
