Uganda Kabaddi Junior team off to the World Cup

The Uganda Kabaddi Junior team was flagged off yesterday Friday 24th February 2023 at National Council of Sports Headquarters to go an represent Uganda at the U20 World cup.

The tournament is slated to start on the 28th February to 5th March at Urmia West Azerbaijan province of Iran.

The 20 man’s contingent was flagged off by Mr Ivan Mugoowa who was representing the General secretary of NCS Dr Benard Patrick Ogwel.

While speaking to the press , team captain Mulalira Douglas assured Ugandans that they are well prepared to fly the Ugandan Flag up high.

“We have been training and we are all fit we are going to fly the Ugandan Flag up high . Last time we finished as 6th because majority of us lacked experience but this time around some of us are going back for the second time and we now know what to do”.He said.

asserts that they have an upper hand in the tournament.

“We have an upper hand in this tournament because it’s a juniors tournament and we have some players who will be playing at the juniors world cup for the second time because in 2019 majority of them were 16 teams and they have now matured and have what it takes to win the World Cup”. Said coach Makubuya Ephraim .

Uganda will be hoping to have a bit at the cherry to win the tournament having finished 6th in the 2019 edition that consited of 12 countries.

The team has played at various tournaments , competitions and has been in camp training for the last three weeks in preparation for this stage.

Uganda and Kenya are the only representatives from the African continent and they will be facing 14 teams from across the global.
