Police arrests 11 female Opposition MPs outside Parliament

Police have arrested at least 11 female Opposition MPs outside Parliament. The MPs were planning to hold a peaceful demonstration on April 27, 2023, marching from Parliament to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to deliver a petition against police and other security agencies which often frustrate their activities, including rallies.

The 11 who were arrested include Joyce Bagala(Mityana woman MP) Kaaya Christine Nakimwero (Kiboga District), Florence Kabugho (Kasese district ), Betty Ethel Naluyima (Wakiso), Joan Acom Alobo (Soroti City) and Asinansi Nyakato (Hoima City) and Suzan Mugabi(Buvuma).

Others are Hellen Nakimuli(Kalangala), Joan Kakande, Manjeri Kyebakutika(Jinja City), Hanifa Nabukeera(Mukono) and Joan Namutaawe(Masaka).

Last week, Police allegedly beat and tortured Buvuma woman MP Susan Nalaziba Mugabi and her supporters at Kyanja, Bwema Sub- County in Buvuma.

The incident saw Police summon officers include SP Kanyesigye Jamal the D/RPC, Buvuma DPC SP Bagoole Michael, AIP Odeke Francis, CPL Wamanga David, PC Obalim, PC Turyahebwa Akim, PC Ahamize Brave, PC Olari Albert John, PC Egwel Peter Aggrey, PC Kabaheka Benson and PC Makomeli Emma Kevin.

On Wednesday, the MPs told speaker Anita Among that security personnel under the commander of RDCs all over the country are systematically blocking their efforts to interface with constituents.
