Speeding taxi claims lives of two juveniles

Residents of Mairirwe trading centre in Buhimba Sub country, Kikuube District after an overspeeding taxi claimed the lives of two juveniles on Hoima-Fort Portal Road.
The fatal road crash occurred at around 7 am in Mairirwe trading centre after the driver of taxi Registration numbered UBA 463G lost control and knocked the bicycle on which the two children were riding killing them on the spot.

Mr Amon Byamukama the Mairirwe village chairperson identified the deceased as Bridget Atuhaire aged 9 and her relative identified as Traver Murungi aged 14, all children of one Brown who is a resident in the same area and a taxi driver in Hoima taxi park.

Julius Allan Hakiiza the Albertine region police spokesperson confirmed the incident and added that the taxi driver is on the run.

“We have recorded an accident in Mairirwe trading centre, Kikuube District where two juveniles who were riding a bicycle were knocked to death, and the driver is on the run and left the taxi on the crime scene,” Hakiiza said.

He added that the taxi was later taken to Kikuube District Police Station and the deceased bodies to Kikuube Health Center 1V for a postmortem as burial preparations get underway.

The development comes in a period of only one week ago after another accident occurred in the same village where a Link bus registration number UBJ 725Z lost control and knocked a sugar cane truck attached to Hoima Sugar in Mairirwe trading centre although no fatalities were recorded from the incident.
