2023 MTN Busoga Masaza Cup launched

Busoga Kingdom in partnership with sponsors on 5th August launched the 6th Edition of the MTN Busoga Masaza Cup under the theme “Talent identification and promotion” aimed at unearthing grassroot talent among the youth.

Bunhole bunanumba will take on Bukooli Namayingo in the opening game on 20th August, 2023.

The announcement was made, by the kingdom second deputy prime minister Osman Noor at the kingdom headquarters in Bugembe.

“We are here to launch the tournament and I want inform you that our Kyabazinga will grace the opening ceremony on 20th August, so i request you all to come in large numbers to welcome our Kyabazinga as we officially kick off the tournament.”

He also revealed that the winner, second, third and fourth in this year’s edition will take home 12 million, 8 million, 6 million and 4 million respectively.
The total sponsorship package for the 2023 edition is to a tune of UGX 500 million with MTN injecting in over 400 million and 90.7 million from Haojue motorcycles.

While speaking at the launch, MTN regional business manager in charge of Eastern region Isaraza Jimmy expressed gratitude for the good relationship between Busoga kingdom and MTN and believes working together in this tournament will further cement the relationship.

“There is no doubt that MTN Uganda and Busoga kingdom are great partners who have stood by each other for some time now and i believe we are still going on.”
He also described the tournament as a true symbol of unity, reflecting the spirit of togetherness among people of Busoga.

New partners Haojue motorcycles delivered 42 balls which were equally distributed among the 14 chiefdoms, they will also be providing rain coats for two coaches from each chiefdom and t-shirts. The gaint motorcycle company will also reward the tournament’s top scorer with a brand new Haojue Express 125cc worth 5 million shillings

“We are proud to be part of this year’s edition of the Masaza cup and we assure you we will be part of this and we will come to your entire counties. Our intention is to see talents identified and we thought it wise to come up with a gift to the top scorer.” said Enoch Kayiwa Mutumba head of sales and marketing Haojue motorcycles.

Haojue will also be delivering some money in cash to help in footing some operating costs during the tournament. Haojue has also availed a promotion truck for media activations before selected matches of the tournament.

The MTN Busoga Masaza Cup was introduced in 2016 and 14 chiefdoms will participate in this year’s edition.
Bukooli Namayingo are the defending champions having dethroned two time champions Kigulu.
