The Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga has revealed that he has updated the Parliament on Hon.Muhammad Ssegirinya’s current health condition.

Mpuuga also stated that steps are being taken to help the bedridden legislator

“I updated Parliament of Uganda this afternoon about the current health condition of our colleague, Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya, who is hospitalised in the Netherlands, and the steps being taken to help him.”

Before the latest update, Mpuuga, had stated that Ssegirinya traveled abroad without notifying the party or its president, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and his office of his sickness.

“My attention has been drawn to social media comments relating to the condition of our colleague, Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya of Kawempe North, who’s currently indisposed, and receiving treatment in the Netherlands.”

“I learnt of his condition last week, on Tuesday, Aug 15, 2023, and the office promptly reached out to him. It was established that he travelled without any notification to the LOP’s office & National Unity Platform party headquarters. I accordingly communicated to the party, including the President, Bobi Wine.”

“The Office has since been following the matter to ensure that our colleague is suuported through the proper parliamentary procedures well known to him.”

During a video call with Kampala’s Muhammad Nsereko, the bedridden Ssegirinya questioned why legislators have been supported financially before while he has received no help from both the party and Parliament.

He revealed that his medical bill has accumulated to 80 million shillings and that it will take two months before he can be admitted to the hospital.

Last week, Parliament Communications Director Chris Obore confirmed that the institution would not abandon Ssegirinya.

He said that medical support would be provided upon clearance from the Parliament medical board.
