Kato Richard, Nawuma Patricia headline winners of the 16th edition of Som Inter-Project Chess Championship

A four days tournament climaxed on Thursday 14th December 2023 as new champions in the Open rated category were crowned.

Over 280 Participants graced the successful 16th Edition Of the SOM inter project chess championships from eleven different SOM inter project chess Academy branches include Kibuli , Bwaise ,Kiboga , kawempe , kiwawu ,Hoima ,Masaka , Gulu , Lukaya , katwe Nateete and and guest appearance from Kenya.

Patricia Nawuma who won a gold medal and a trophy in the open ladies Category with six points , she was followed by Babirye Stella who won a silver medal and obtained five out of eight and Vivian Nayiga won a bronze medal with four out of eight.

On the other hand in the men’s rated open category Richard kato won his first open championships after winning two times champion Ssali juluis and both obtained seven out of eight, he won a trophy with a gold medal. were was followed by Kiyaga Samuel who gained also six out of eight .

In the unrated category boys Shagamaya Ashraf set a record of obtaining eight out of eight and won a gold medal with a trophy while Nsubuga maria won in the girls category with 6 out of eight

In the differently abled category Mbaziira Wasswa Sharif won a gold medal obtaining five out of eight followed by Seguya Enock twho won a silver medal with four out of eight and maxime Cizavita trailed with a bronze.

Som Chess Academy uses chess game to transform lives one move at a time .
