Police in Mbarara have arrested one Shantel Mercy, a resident of Nyakeizi cell in Kakoba division Mbarara city for allegedly torturing her five year old step son.
The five year old was discovered by police in one of the residential public latrines in the area with huge wounds at the back for a burnt body and marks of canes.
It is alleged that the step mother to the five year old boy has on top of burning his back been making him sleep in the latrine and severely beating him.
Neighbours who preferred anonymity said that the accused woman has been asking the boy to clean their latrine using his tongue.
The LC1 chairman of Nyakeizi cell, Ahmed Timanywa said, “I was notified at about 9am that a woman is keeping her step son under the bed with a burnt back and also keeps him in the latrine . I was also informed she has been asking the boy to clean it with his own tongue, so I notified police who swung into action.”
Lubowa Sayid, an area counselor revealed that “the little boy has been feeding from latrine on lucky days and going on an empty stomach some days and only moves out only when the latrine is being used.”
Shantel, who couldn’t justify her evil acts on the little boy, was arrested while she had taken her other two children to a salon for a haircut in preparation for school resumption on Monday.
Police have kickoff investigations into the matter with preliminary investigations showing that the five year old boys’ father neglected him and left him with the child with no support.
