The National Unity Platform (NUP) has announced that it is in the final stages of implementing its party roadmap ahead of the 2026 elections, asserting its continued significance as a political force despite facing challenges.

According to NUP’s deputy spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the party has made significant progress in establishing its headquarters and mobilization structures.

Despite internal friction, Mufumbiro emphasized that NUP is moving forward rapidly.

“Mobilisation structures are on the ground, with only a few issues remaining regarding operationalization,” Mufumbiro said.

In the 2021 general elections, NUP faced hurdles due to limited representation, even failing to field a single candidate in some constituencies.

However, the party is adamant that it will be better prepared for the upcoming 2026 elections.

“We are set to roll out a national program for the national structure, from grassroots to the country level,” Mufumbiro affirmed.

Furthermore, NUP aims to strengthen its vetting process for candidates, ensuring that only those fully aligned with the party’s principles receive party cards to contest elections.

“We will streamline the process for obtaining a party card and implement stringent measures for those who receive them,” Mufumbiro emphasized.

Despite facing obstacles, NUP remains resolute in its determination to solidify its position in Ugandan politics and assert its influence in the upcoming elections.
