Police saves student attempting suicide

Students and administrators of Kabale School of Comprehensive Nursing at Makanga Hill in the Central Division of Kabale Municipality were on Tuesday June 4th 2024 left into shock after a student attempted to take her own life under unknown circumstances.

The student whose names have been withheld is pursuing a certificate of Midwifery at the aforementioned facility.

The incident according to sources occurred around 3:00 PM when the student climbed the high water tank stands of the school with an attempt of jumping down.

It is alleged that Perhaps She could have feared, attracting the immediate attention of fellow students, administrators, and the local police. As the crowd gathered, the distressed student lay down near the water tanks and pretended to have fainted.

In a dramatic rescue operation, the police and concerned well-wishers managed to secure the student with a stretcher and carefully lower her to safety using ropes. She was then rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Makanga for further medical attention.

Witnesses among the students, who preferred to remain anonymous, speculated that the student’s actions were a desperate plea for attention from the school administration regarding issues of poor feeding and overall welfare at the institution. Others suggested that the student might have been suffering from a mental health crisis.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the school management were unsuccessful, as journalists and police were harshly chased away from the school premises by the administrators. By the time of reporting, the police had not released an official statement regarding the incident.

This tragic event has cast a spotlight on the critical need for better mental health support and improved living conditions within educational institutions. The community remains in shock, hoping for a swift and thorough investigation into the underlying causes of the incident.
