Kampala Queens: The ‘Model’ Club or a Comedy of Errors?”

Recent developments surrounding Kampala Queens Women Football Club have cast a shadow over it’s reputation as a model club in women’s football. According to sources close to the club, who wish to remain anonymous, the situation within the team has been steadily deteriorating.

Key issues highlighted include severe delays and irregularities in player payments. Players allegedly have not received their full salaries for several months, with payments often arriving in insufficient amounts and not in accordance with contractual obligations. This financial instability has reportedly led to discontent among the players, many of whom are now reluctant to renew their contracts or are actively seeking to leave the club.

The club, owned by Hon. Moses Magogo, who also serves as the FUFA president, has been vocal about being a beacon of professionalism in women’s football. However, the reality appears starkly different, with allegations of mismanagement and dissatisfaction among its players.

At the heart of the turmoil are interpersonal conflicts and management decisions that have further exacerbated the club’s problems. Reports suggest that the club’s former captain, Zainah Namuleme, was stripped of her captaincy following a disagreement with head coach Charles Ayeikho. This incident reflects broader tensions within the club, including the resignation of the assistant coach, a former national team star, amidst concerns over the club’s direction and leadership.

Furthermore, the appointment of Ayeikho as head coach, despite reservations from within the club, and the subsequent departure of Tony Mawejje, another coach, indicate a growing rift between the management and coaching staff.

In light of these developments, several players are reportedly planning to leave Kampala Queens, citing dissatisfaction with the club’s management and contractual uncertainties. The situation is compounded by alleged remarks from a senior club official dismissing concerns with arrogance, which further underscores the discord within the club.

While these reports remain unconfirmed, they paint a troubling picture of Kampala Queens’ internal workings. Despite its lofty ambitions and the stature of its owner, Kampala Queens Women Football Club faces significant challenges in maintaining its status as a leading entity in women’s football, raising questions about its future trajectory under current leadership.
