Corruption Scandal Rocks Medical Interns’ Dinner: Funds Misappropriated, Interns Excluded

In a shocking turn of events, a dinner organized for medical interns on August 10th at Serena Hotel was marred by high levels of corruption and gross mismanagement. What was intended to be a celebratory event in support of the interns instead become a scandal, exposing the greed of some entrusted leaders.

The Ministry of Education and Sports, through Maama Janet Kataha Museveni, allocated a staggering 50 million UGX for the event. However, these funds never reached the interns. Instead, the money was siphoned off by certain leaders who were responsible for organizing the dinner.

Disturbingly, the majority of the interns were kept unaware of this allocation. Not only did these leaders withhold the funds, but they also continued to solicit additional money from the interns, a move that can only be described as extortion. Interns who couldn’t afford to contribute were systematically excluded from the event, resulting in fewer than 100 attendees at the event.

The extent of the corruption only came to light when the Permanent Secretary, Hon. Diana Atwine, inadvertently mentioned the funding during her closing remarks at the dinner. It was then that the interns realized a substantial sum had been set aside for them—a sum they never benefited from.
Perhaps the most egregious aspect of this scandal is the exclusion of interns who couldn’t produce additional funds at the last minute. Denying them entry to the venue was not only a violation of their rights but a glaring indication of the corruption that tainted the entire event.
The individuals implicated in this gross mismanagement include:

Bill Adriat – President
Nankya Shanita – Vice President
Gumisiriza Oscar Melvin – Finance Minister
Aloysius Kamukama – Chairman of the Committee
Judith Nalukwago – Secretary General
Rama Musiho – Committee Member
These leaders, tasked with advocating for the interns, instead chose to prioritize their own financial gain over the welfare of those they were meant to support.

Adding insult to injury, when the Permanent Secretary found empty chairs at the event, the leaders falsely claimed that the interns had boycotted the dinner.

As the story unfolds, the medical interns are expressing their outrage at these acts of corruption. This is a developing story, and we will continue to keep you updated.
