Man arrested for Stealing 3 Crates of Beer, Cartons of Waragi in bid to Start Own Bar

Waiswa Bungu will forever remember the day the Uganda Police Force’s K9 Unit came into his life. On Saturday, August 24, 2024, a sniffer dog from the K9 Unit led officers straight to him, ending his brief but audacious career in crime.

Bungu, a resident of Gwase Trading Center in Bugaya Sub-County, Buyende District, had broken into a local bar the night before. The bar, owned by Waiwe Stone, was the target of his theft, and Bungu managed to steal three crates of beer and several cartons of waragi.

Planning to start his own bar in the same trading center using the stolen goods, Bungu likely hoped this would be his last theft. However, his plans unraveled quickly when Waiwe reported the incident to the police, prompting the deployment of a sniffer dog to the scene.

According to ACP Ktuuma Rusoke, the police spokesperson, the canine’s keen sense of smell led officers directly to Bungu, where they recovered all three crates of beer.

“Waiswa was also found attempting to set up a bar at the location,” Rusoke said in a statement dated August 26, 2024
