Police in Kamuli District are investigating a tragic incident in Buduuli Zone, Nabwigulu Sub-County, where a 52-year-old mother and her 26-year-old daughter were fatally electrocuted on Saturday morning.
The victims, identified as Tapenesi Kazibira and her daughter, Manjeri Nabirye, died on the spot after encountering a live wire while performing household chores.
According to preliminary reports, Kazibira was hanging clothes on a wire line outside their home when she came into contact with live electricity.
Nabirye, attempting to save her mother, also suffered fatal electrocution.
Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North Police spokesperson, said the bodies had been taken to Kamuli General Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
“This tragic incident highlights the risks of electrical hazards in our communities,” Kasadha stated.
He urged residents to report any exposed live wires or damaged electrical infrastructure to authorities without delay.
“We appeal to the public to immediately inform local leaders or utility providers about any dangerous electrical installations to prevent similar tragedies,” he added.
Investigations are ongoing to determine how live wires came into contact with the area where the incident occurred.
Shocked community members have called for urgent measures to enhance the safety of electrical systems in the region.
This incident underscores the need for timely maintenance and inspections of aging or exposed electrical infrastructure.
Authorities are expected to issue safety guidelines and work with utility companies to address vulnerabilities in the system.
