Uganda may have witnessed some humiliating displays along the years and the most memorable ones include Adam Semugabi’s penalty miss that cost Uganda a place at the 1994 AFCON.
The 0-0 stalemate against Kenya at Namboole in 2012 that saw Uganda’s hopes vanish in thin air which in fact later ended the careers of David Obua, Ibra Sekajja and Nestroy Kizito.
To this fan, not even the recent debacle in Blantyre where Uganda needed just a point to qualify for AFCON 2022 but went on to lose the game 1-0 was painful enough.
Regardless of the fact that Uganda had qualified for Morocco following Sudan’s victory over Congo, the fans who had bought all the available tickets off the shelves expected a decent showing for the Cranes. In fact South Sudan had exhibited a mature sign of professionalism by winning a match where they had no business dying for.
“I had decided to suppress my anger about yesterday’s game but I can’t pretend. Allow me to Vent here.
“This was for me the worst Uganda cranes display I have seen in 25 years or so. This is coming from a person who saw Semugabi miss a penalty in Nakivubo against Nigeria. Now do the math and know how many Uganda cranes games I have watched.
I have seen all the near misses for qualifications to AFrica Cup and now AFCON.”
“I don’t mind us loosing even 0:5 as long as we are playing with pride and our hearts in it. This display was the worst I have seen. When you put on the cranes Jersey you have to play with your heart and pride. It shouldn’t matter what game, it shouldn’t matter if we have qualified or not. You are representing the 40+million Ugandans including those who are not yet born.”
“Yesterday you people took us for granted . As for you Engineer Taddeo Lwanga we are not letting you off the hook that early. You made a mistake, understood mistakes are human, but for you to go ahead and pretend you have been badly injured was the worst part.
Football is one of the few things that bring us Joy in this country and you people want to spoil it.”
A this point I want to thank our brothers of South Sudan for giving us 6 points and taking away 3 points from our closest opponents Congo Brazzaville.” Posted a frustrated fan
Mwe Uganda cranes tetulina kyetubebaza mwetereze nga temunatuswaza mu AFCON.”
The Cranes will to redeem themselves in Brazaville in another dead rubber on Sunday.
