Kira Municipality Member of Parliament Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has confirmed that he will support Bugiri legislator Asuman Basalirwa for the speakership.
“Hon.Basalirwa has told me that is going to stand for the speakership and I have promised him that I won’t stand this time.” Last time I came out because our colleagues in the opposition failed to express interest and it was like we had come to clap hands for the NRM people.”
“I am going to support Basalirwa since this is about national issues and we are looking for better leadership in the Parliament, so this is a job not about luck.”
On why opposition should come out with a candidate and on the number of votes he got last time when he was in the race
“Nothing is impossible in life and that’s why people always go to work, so as the opposition we have to fight with the NRM. We shouldn’t allow NRM people to come to vote for a speaker in Parliament like they are voting a party chairman.”
The votes I got last time were for the opposition not mine. So the opposition last time got just 15 votes and I went back home happy since I did my job.” Said Ssemujju
The new Speaker of the 11th Parliament to replace deceased Jacob Oulanyah will be elected on Friday.
