School captain dies after head collision during District championship

St Peters Vocational Secondary School football team captain in Kisoro Municipality has passed on after suffering a serious head injury in the match.

The deceased identified as Barinda Kevin who was in S4 and a resident of Businga village, Chihe parish in Nyakinama Sub County suffered a serious head injury on Friday last week.

He reportedly collided with another player of Muhabura Shine Secondary School during the Post Primaries tournament at Seseme playground in Kisoro.

The school head teacher George Zihuramye says the deceased even managed to play the next game before he was substituted after complaining over headache.

“From that point, his health quickly deteriorated, and we had to rush him to the nearest clinic where he was referred to St. Francis Hospital, Mutolere”, Zihuramye said as quoted by ChimpReports

Barinda was admitted over night at St Francis Hospital where the medical experts discovered that he had sustained a serious head injury resulting in internal bleeding.

Barinda passed away on Saturday, 18th March in Hospital.

Meanwhile, the tournament continues at Gisorora, Nyakabande technical, Seseme and Shaaza playgrounds this week.
