Former Rubaga South Member of Parliament Kato Lubwama is dead. The celebrated comedian reportedly passed away in the wee hours of Wednesday at a medical facility.

The former MP allegedly succumbed to complications resulting from his long standing heart condition on June 7 at Stana Medical Centre in Bunamwaya.

“Woken up to the sad news of Hon. Kato Lubwama’s death. The former MP brought life to the 10th Parliament. He could bring a smile to all of us. He was passionate on seeing the entertainment industry grow and employ as many young people as possible. To him, the political divide.” Said Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa

Lubwama first shot to fame as an actor and playwright in the 1990s. He was the founder of Diamonds Ensemble that is credited, along with a wave of theatre companies, that revived the art-form in Uganda.

In the early 2000s, Lubwama would transition to the nascent FM radio medium, furthering his renown on CBS FM Kalisoliso programme.

He would form a powerful partnership with fellow actors Abby Mukiibi and Kawenja as their show vied for the most listened to morning show in Uganda. His performance name on the show was Bisso.

In 2016, he was elected as Member of Parliament for Rubaga South before losing the seat in 2021 to Aloysius Mukasa.

Since his exit from parliament, Lubwama had been re-establishing himself in the entertainment field. He had founded B24 TV, started a YouTube channel and made regular appearances on other digital platforms, most memorably on NBS TV’s UnKut and Kasuku.

He is credited for playing a vital role in nurturing musicians such as Mesarch Semakula, Geoffrey Lutaaya, Dr.Hilderman among others.

Lubwama was 52 years old at the time of his demise.

He was born August 16, 1970. His twin brother Isaac Wasswa also passed away years ago.
