Police at Industrial City division in Mbale city are holding a 29-year-old man over allegations of pouring acid on his wife.
The suspect is identified as Rajabu Masaba, a resident of Namabasa IV lower cell, Namabasa Ward, Industrial City division in Mbale City.
According to Julius Muchuma, the defense secretary of Namabasa IV lower cell, Masaba separated a bedroom with his wife, Aisha Nabwire 19 years of age as a punishment last month after suspecting her of going out with other men.
He adds that on Sunday night, 24th September 2023, while Nabwire was in bed in her room, Masaba went with acid and poured it on her but the man who has not yet been identified escaped.
The Acid burnt her seriously on the stomach, face, chest, and neck but now she has been admitted to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition for treatment.
SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying Masaba has been arrested and is currently being detained at Mbale central police station.
He says that police are still investigating the matter after he will taken to courts on charges of attempted murder.
Taitika urged married couples to desist from extramarital relationships such that such cases can be reduced in Bugisu.
