The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) is mourning the death of its activist, Rose Mugarurirwe.

Mugarurirwe was reportedly killed by criminals under mysterious circumstances.

Makindye East MP Derrick Nyeko said the body of Mugarurirwe, a resident of Bukasa, Muyenga, Kampala, was found in Mubende district.

“My deepest sympathies go out to the people of Kisugu and Bukasa, as well as the Makindye National Unity Platform (NUP) family, for the tragic loss of our beloved Mugarurirwe Rose,” said Nyeko.

“It breaks my heart to hear that she was brutally taken away from us by unknown criminals and left in Mubende District, far from her home in Bukasa Kanyogoga,” he added.

Police in the area said they were investigating the incident.

Mugarurirwe contested for the position of Woman Councillor in Makindye East in the 2021 general elections.

“In this difficult time, I urge the authorities to thoroughly investigate and provide a comprehensive report on the circumstances surrounding our comrade’s untimely passing,” said Nyeko.

Murder cases have been on the rise in Uganda in recent years. In 2021, police recorded 39,000 murder cases across the country.
