Partying S.4 students arrested for killing a man over girl

Police in Gulu, Northern Uganda, are holding four students for reportedly killing a man over a girl.

“The police in Aswa West and Gulu West have 4 students from Gulu West Division, who attacked one Samuel Rubangakene, a 29-year-old resident of Airfields cell, Bardego ward, in Gulu City,” said police on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred at around 5:40 am on October 10.

Police say the group of students assaulted Rubangakene “to death over a girl.”

The suspects were returning from a disco hall.

Police are investigating the source of the conflict that led to Rubangakene’s death.

“The body of the deceased was retrieved from the road side between Gulu Army SS and St. Jude Orphanage Primary School,” said police.

The 4 suspects include; Paul Rubangakene David, an 18-year-old student, Ivan Okot Anthony, an 18-year-old student, Lual Deng Dit, an 18-year-old South Sudanese student and Ammalon Opoka, 15.

Police strongly condemned “these acts of violence by students and we call upon all school administrators to remind students of the importance of resisting peer pressure to act responsibly.”
