The first edition of the Som Easter Open Chess Championship Officially launched on Thursday at som chess academy Headquarters in katwe , Makindye Division .
The som Chess Academy was founded in 2004 uses chess as platform to transform lives and restores hope among the less privileged youth in the society .
Over 150 participants will grace the first edition of the Som Easter Open Chess Championship that will be running from Friday 29th to 1st April 2024 that will compete in two categories , Open (Men & women ) and ladies (only women ) .
According to the founder of the som chess Academy Eng. Robert Katende Four east African countries will participate in this year’s edition include south Sudan ,Rwanda ,Kenya and Uganda .
The event will be honored with two special guests (Scott and kavyashree from USA ) who will compete in the Blitz chess that will held in 5th April 2024 .about the commencement of the league.
Ten Million shillings prize will be awarded inform of cash prizes , trophies and Medals .
The event is sponsored by som Chess Academy, Katende Robert Initiative and sports outreach Ministry and endorsed by Uganda chess federation and rated by the world chess federation .
All the winners in both (Women & men )categories will be awarded same prize
