Police impounds Ministry vehicle for defying Ebola restrictions in Mubende

The territorial police in Mubende has impounded a Ministry of Health vehicle UG.3931M for defying the presidential directives put in place to fight the spread of Ebola in the district.

According to Rachel Kawala, the Police spokesperson in Wamala Region, the vehicle was loading passengers along Kampala Mubende highway which is contrary to the presidential directive in the fighting the spread of Ebola.

It should be noted that last week, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced a curfew in the districts of Mubende and Kassanda to intensify the fight of the Ebola in the two districts.

The vehicle’s driver John Musana was arrested and is currently detained at Mubende central police station.

Musana will be charged of doing neglect act likely to cause the spread of Ebola.

Kassanda and Mubende were placed under strict measures including a ban on movements in and out for 21 days.

The two neighboring districts registered the country’s first Ebola cases in September 2022.

According to the Ministry of Health as of Thursday 20th October, the highly infectious disease has so far claimed 25 deaths. A total of 64 Ebola cases have been registered.
