Rishi Sunak will succeed Liz Truss as the United Kingdom Prime Minister after his remaining rival for the position Penny Mordaunt pulled out.

Sunak was defeated by Truss in the previous tory contest seven weeks ago. Truss resigned from the position last week.

The former former chancellor will become the UK’s first British Asian prime minister and the youngest PM for more than 200 years.

The 42 year old will be the fourth consecutive prime minister after Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Ms Truss – to take power without a general election.

Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies says he is looking forward to working with Sunak

“As a friend of Wales, Rishi understands the challenges we face, with high energy bills, high inflation, and household budgets being stretched to breaking point.”

“I look forward to working with him to tackle those challenges.” He stated.

Meanwhile, King Charles III is returning to London this afternoon from Sandringham, the family’s country retreat in Norfolk. Rishi Sunak must see him to be officially installed as prime minister, after Liz Truss relinquishes the job.
