Wazalendo Sacco of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) gave back to the community on Friday 27th January ,2023 in a handing over ceremony at their head offices in Kiwatuule.
The items that were handed over included 10 maternal beds and 50 dustbins worthy 12.5 million Uganda shillings with an aim of improving welfare in the communities. The items will be distributed to health centres in greater Mbarara during 42th anniversary of the Tarehe Sita week.
Wazalendo Sacco CEO Col Joseph Fred Onata handed over the items to the UPDF Chief Political Commisar Maj Gen Herny Matsiko.
During the hand over ceremony,the Wazalendo Sacco Col Joseph Fred Onata made his remarks during the handling over ceremony.
“As the UPDF it’s an honour to give back to the community and through Wazalendo Sacco we are giving these beds and they will be of use to mother’s and these dust bins will ensure cleanliness and as Wazalendo Sacco we are going to conduct trainings about management of Saccos in greater Mbarara during the Tarehe Sita week.” Said the Wazalendo CEO Col Joseph Fred Onata.
Upon receiving the items donated from the Army Sacco, the CPC Maj Gen Herny Matsiko express his happeness in his remarks.
“I am happy to receive these items from the UPDF through the Wazalendo Sacco.The circle has grown and has made profits and now giving back to the community through the Tarehe Sita week.” He said
Beyond the donations Wazalendo saaco will participate in training Saaco governance of the circles in the communities.
Currently Wazalendo Sacco is the biggest Sacco in Uganda with over 9000 members, with savings of about 347 billion and loan portfolio of 633 billion.
