Kenyan legislator on Tuesday appeared in Parliament wearing blood stained pants.
Senator Gloria Orwoba arrived at the Kenyan Parliament in a white hit with red stains to advocate for the free distribution of sanitary pads to girls and women in prison.
A law granting women access to free sanitary pads was scheduled to be tabled by Orwoba but a group of MPs objected to her action, saying it was an inappropriate presentation.
Orwoba however stood her ground, arguing that her menstrual cycle cannot interfere with her legislative duties.
For starters in Uganda, during the 2016 election campaigns, the NRM government pledged in their manifesto to provide sanitary pads to school-going girls so that they do not run out of school when their menstrual periods start.
The pledge is however yet to be fulfilled due to lack of enough resources as by the the Ministry of Education and Sports.
