Electoral Commission needs Shs195bn for 2026 General elections preparations

The Uganda Electoral Commission is Seeking 195bn shillings to start preparations for 2026 general elections.

However government has only allocated 18.7bn in this coming financial year 2023/24 to kickoff the 2026 general elections roadmap.

This was presented before the parliamentary committee of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs where the commission officials lead by EC boss Justice Simon Byamukama presented their Ministerial Policy statements for financial year 2023/2024 noting that the first phase of 2026 roadmap starts in the 2023/24 financial year with a series of activities lined up and only 18.7bn has been allocated in the budget out of the 195bn required, leaving the EC grappling with the funding gap of 177.2bn.

The Commission plans to roll out different activities including Demarcation of parliamentary constituencies and Local Governments, reorganisation of polling stations among other activities.
