P.4 student commits suicide by hanging himself on Mango tree

Shock and grief engulfed residents of Nyakasozi village, Isunga Sub-county, Kagadi district after a 13-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging on a mango tree.

The incident occurred on Sunday though his body was discovered Monday morning by one of the deceased’s colleagues.

The deceased has been identified as Nicholas Tugume of the same residence and was a primary four pupil at Kijojomi Primary School.

John Ssenkomi the Nyakasozi village chairperson says the deceased ended his own life after developing misunderstandings with his relatives, adding that the deceased’s mother also took her life in the same manner last year after developing misunderstandings with her husband who also died last year.

“Tugume committed suicide after developing some misunderstanding with his relatives and in the same manner his mother committed suicide after developing misunderstandings with her husband last year,” Ssenkomi said.

In a related development, another child hung himself in Kibaale district for unknown reasons.

The deceased has been identified as one Muhumuza 12 a son of Omuhereza Ategeka a resident of Nyamukoni village, Buronzi in Nyamarunda sub-county, Kibaale district.

The incident happened on Sunday evening at around 6:30 Pm.

This followed the first incident that happened yesterday in Kagadi district where Nicholas Tugume 13 a resident of Nyakasozi Lc1, Isunga Sub County, Kagadi district also hanged himself after developing a quarrel with his fellow family members.

The body of Tugume was discovered by a colleague while hanging in a mango tree next to their home.

One of the eyewitnesses identified as John Bahati said the deceased Muhumuza had gone to guard Monkeys in a maize garden by the time he took his life.
