The Speaker of parliament Anita Among has today confirmed Uganda’s readiness to host the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the commonwealth 2024.
Addressing journalists at parliament, Speaker Among said that already 45 speakers and presiding officers out of the 74 expected from 52 countries have already confirmed their attandance.
The function is to be held at Munyonyo commonwealth speak resort from 3 to 6th of January 2024.
The function will officially opened by President Museveni on 4th of the same month.
Speaker Among says some of the topics to be discussed are Environment and climate change challenges, Youth and Gender, Security, Health and others.
Among revealed some of the objectives of CSPOC2024 include maintaining, foster and encourage fairness impartiality on part of speakers, promote knowledge and understand parliamentary democracy and Develop parliamentary systems.
“The objectives of the conference are: 1. Maintain, foster, and encourage impartiality and fairness on the part of Speakers and Presiding Officers; 2. Promote knowledge and understanding of parliamentary democracy in its various forms;3. Develop parliamentary institution.” Said Among
Expected benefits of Uganda hosting the Conference and Presiding Officers of the commonwealth 2024 include:
1. Increased private visits to tourist attractions around the country will increase incomes of sector players;
2. The bilateral and multilateral meetings will strengthen ties between parliaments of the Commonwealth.
3.Parliament_Ug will foster cooperation, alliances and strengthen diplomatic ties with sisterly Commonwealth countries;
4. Deepen parliamentary diplomacy and augment Uganda’s role in Commonwealth parliamentary collaborations and presenting opportunities to share expertise.
5. Delegates and accompanying persons and other officials will create business and entrepreneurial linkages to cement trade relations with Uganda; and
6. Global media coverage of CSPOC2024 will publicise Uganda resulting in trickle down effects.
