President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has written to the Chief Justice, Alfonse Owinyi-Dollo over the imminent sale of Gaddafi Mosque in Kampala among other properties over Shs19.2 Billion debt.

In a letter dated 7th December, 2023, President Museveni says he received a letter from Mufti Mubajje dated 29th November, 2023 over the imminent auction of Muslim properties in Kampala, Gaddafi Mosque inclusive.

Museveni who says, the Judiciary should have handled the issue differently is aghast that the National Mosque could be one of the properties to be sold by businessman, Justus Kyabahwa.

“I was most surprised to read in Mufti Mubajje’s letter that among the Moslem properties to be affected is the National Mosque at Old Kampala. Really!!” President Museveni wrote wondering how a sane Judge can make such a directive.

He directed Owiny to have the issue revisited to restore what he calls ‘sanity.’

This explains why from nowhere, the court bailiffs procured to auction the Mosque eventually turned around saying this parcel of land is encumbered encompassing significant structures, including the National Muslim Mosque and the Muslim community headquarters, along with other properties situated on Old Kampala Hill.
