Besigye’s son Anselm to embark on PhD program at Columbia University

Winnie Byanyima, the executive director of UNAIDS, and wife to Dr. Kizza Besigye has excitedly shared that her son, Anselm Besigye, will be embarking on a fully-funded PhD programme at Columbia University after receiving offers from different top institutions like; Oxford University and the University of Chicago.
Columbia University, renowned for its academic excellence and situated in the vibrant heart of New York City, stands as one of the oldest and most esteemed Ivy League universities in the United States, tracing its origins back to 1754.

Through her social media, Winnie revealed that;

“With offers of a fully-funded PhD programme from ⁦@UniofOxford, @UofC and ⁦@Columbia @akbesigye has today accepted the offer from @Columbia.

Tough decision to say bye to beloved ⁦@UofC & turn down Oxford. All the best AKB. Proud Mum”- she posted.

Byanyima expressed both pride and the bittersweet nature of the decision, highlighting the tough choice Anselm faced in turning down offers from other prestigious universities. She warmly bid farewell to the University of Chicago while expressing gratitude for the opportunities presented by Columbia University.

Responding to inquiries from followers eager to learn the secret to securing such scholarships, Byanyima provided insight into the rigorous application process.

Anselm’s journey involved direct applications to the universities, submission of a comprehensive PhD draft proposal, samples of his writing, and a summary of his Master’s thesis. His dedication and diligence culminated in being shortlisted and interviewed for the programme.

Anselm Besigye, the only known child of Winnie Byanyima and Dr. Kizza Besigye, has undoubtedly made his parents proud with this remarkable achievement.
