On Monday, the Speaker of Parliament, Anitah Among, issued a directive for the immediate removal of the Pioneer buses parked at Namboole Stadium.

During an inspection of the stadium’s renovation works on Monday, Among emphasized the need to free up the space.

“You did not bring the buses here, you don’t have a contract with the Uganda Land Commission (ULC), did they ask you for permission to lease out the land? If we have a beautiful, smart stadium here, we no longer need scrap.” She stated

During a plenary on Tuesday, Mathias Mpuuga revealed that pioneer bus owners are in court seeking compensation of about UGX 25 billion.

“I hope when the matter of pioneer bus comes to parliament we shall be very strict at investigating circumstances under which pioneer bus owners ended up at Namboole acquiring a lease of 49 years and now they are in court requiring compensation of Shs 25 billion for business loss,” Mpuuga said.

Mpuuga said he had been able to discuss with pioneer bus owners during his site visit at Namboole Stadium on Monday, April 15, 2024. He said the bus owners are willing to vacate the Namboole parking space as they continue to pursue compensation.

Following Mpuuga s report, the Speaker has now directed COSASE to investigate circumstances under which the Uganda Land Commission (ULC) subleased land belonging to another entity to pioneer bus owners without authorization.

“I want COSASE to pick it up as a priority and to find out how ULC subleased land that belonged to another entity without authorization,” she said.
