Bailed Ssegirinya dumps Mr.Update name, promises to continue with the struggle

Recently released Members of Parliament Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana have for the first time addressed the media at National Unity Platform headquarters in Kamwokya.

The bailed legislators confirmed that there release was done in lawfully and they were no negotiations with the Ugandan government for their release in February.

“There was no negotiation. It was the law that worked for us as well as the pressure from journalists, religious, cultural leaders and our party leaders,” the two legislators stated

After two years in prison, Ssegirinya has decided to dump the Mr.Update name since they are now very many people who branded themselves in the similar way

“Many things have changed in two years. I was the only Mr. Update before I was taken to jail. Now, we have many Mr. Updates. I am now looking for a new name,” Ssegirinya said

Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana promised to continue fighting corruption and for the release of political prisoners

“There’s no politician who has suffered in jail for two years in our generation. We have been there for you, we have suffered and our backs are not broken,” Ssewanyana said.

“We shall continue to fight against corruption. We shall continue to fight for the release of political prisoners.” The pair concluded

The two MPs spent 524 days in jail an equivalent of 17 months before they were released on 13th February, 2023.
