The 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth commenced in Munyonyo with a stirring inauguration led by Uganda’s President, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The event witnessed esteemed figures like the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Right Honourable Anita Annet Among, setting the tone for a momentous gathering.
President Museveni’s keynote address highlighted Africa’s historical significance, citing the discovery of the oldest man in East Africa’s Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania. Emphasizing the continent’s roots, he urged nations to utilize their advancements in science and technology responsibly, cautioning against exploitative practices.
Urging for mutual respect and shared values among visitors, President Museveni called for leading through exemplary actions rather than imposing ideologies.
“Stop manipulation and lectures to societies that are different from yours. If you think you are right, influence people by example,” remarked President Museveni, setting a tone of global cooperation and understanding.
The inaugural session saw a distinguished attendance, with various ministers, Members of Parliament, and a surprise appearance by former Leader of Opposition, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba MP. Their presence underscores the significance of the 27th Commonwealth Conference hosted by the Parliament of Uganda.
A pivotal aspect of the event was the eco-friendly mobility solutions showcased, symbolized by the Kayoola EVS buses, a testament to Uganda’s strides in sustainable transportation.
Manufactured by Kiira Motors, these buses not only exemplify technological advancement but also serve as a beacon of Africa’s potential in embracing eco-conscious solutions.
Throughout the conference, speakers will deliberate on topics such as well-being support and the pivotal role of speakers and presiding officers in today’s global landscape.
CSPOC2024 aims not just to discuss but to set benchmarks, as evident in the event’s innovative approach towards eco-friendly mobility solutions.
